Baba Dunya

This issue of Wycliffe Bible Translators mostly focused on data and stats but I will share an inspiring story.

Wayo Bai, whom the translation team affectionately called 'Baba Duya' dedicated the very last decade of his life translating the New Testament into his Duya tribe's language.

He was so committed, he even sold his house to fund some of the programme. This is how God operates in cultures alien to many of us- Wayo would have been able to simply call up one of his family and announce, on the day, him and his family are coming to stay, a concept that would drive the vast majority of Westerners mad 🤭

Wayo's commitment never wavered, even when his health started declining, he still carried on.

Just before he could see his people's joy at having a New Testament translated, Wayo went to be with the Lord.

I cannot speculate on what departed saints do and don't know in Heaven, but I can tell you Wayo is joyfully worshipping our Triune, Thrice Holy God right now and if he does know that the translation is out, he will be praising God for it!

A picture I took of Wayo as it was only in the magazine and not online:
