The morgue, the old nature and Christ.
Like so many points my pastor makes yet another point that needs a seperate post.
Morgue
My pastor made this analogy on Sunday's sermon. Look at a morgue or open casket, the dead body/ies inside is a perfect picture of the soul that has not accepted Christ as Saviour. ALL of our souls, mine included, before we came to Christ loked like this- dead.
A very powerful analogy indeed and it reminds us of what we are before Christ. God did not choose you because you were special, he sees a sinner saved SOLELY by His grace and for His glory.
Do you see why posts that make it all about you are flawed? Without God first working in you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, you or I would NEVER have chosen Christ.
The Old Nature
Though we have been made alive by Christ, the old nature is still in us and pulls us toward sin.
The above sentence is why we all as Christians need daily encouragement by reading God's word and praying daily. We also need to attend a Gospel church where God's word is preached and have fellowship with other believers after service- to be encouraged and to encourage. Attending church does not make us "Super Christians" it shows our human weakness and that we need encouragement in this walk!
I have criticised posters, who for example, have gone from doing solely Gospel posts to suddenly celebrating known occultists and promoting their work. Do not think for a second you or I are above that.
Take away my daily Bible reading, my fellowship, my devotional reading, my daily prayer and my church attendance to be encouraged by the sermon and other believers, and I too would start fixating on the things of the world and trying to find "my true self" when, in fact, my true self is in Christ. God has given you these tools to fight the old nature.
