Sermon Notes 04/01/26
Went down to the coast with my wife's family over the new Year and had New Year's eve there- plans frequently changed and yesterday a planned 8 AM leave suddenly turned into 2PM- with a 2 hour yes then no then yes detour!
But above all I was kept frequently busy by my little six year old nephew, and it is a pleasure as he does not have a father figure and in the mornings and after play it was a pleasure to teach him about God in a way a six year old could understand and fascinating to see how his little six year old mind viewed God. Before you ask his mother (my wife's sister) absolutely approved of me doing this and she is now attending church frequently.
The Sermon and service
We went where I did a sermon notes give or take almost two years ago, a very rare, good Anglican (my denomination) church on the coast that actually preaches the Bible as God's word and preaches the Gospel- and rightly points out how the C of E compromises the Gospel in many ways.
Before the service started, the main vicar discretely put his hand on the shoulder of the guest preacher and gave a prayer for the guest preacher to glorify Christ.
. The main vicar delivered the most sobering opening- about the Swiss ski resort fires he says "They were told they had their whole lives ahead of them just before, weren't they?" Reminding us that we only are kept alive by God's common grace and the urgency of accepting Christ as Saviour NOW.
The guest preacher then preached on James 3:1-12, it was expositional (and very good) but expositional sermons can be quite hard to take notes on.
. Only Philemon in the NT does not mention false teachers- God's word is very serious about this. This got me thinking about a video sermon on here by Donnie Swaggart= his message essentially said absurd things like Christ's blood can give us victory over illness, etc.
. Be careful of the tongue, a core message of James 3! We must be seen by others to practice what we preach, to be a good testimony to others, especially to those of us who teach!
