Going to Church without wearing underwear

My daughter packed her own valise on Friday and I didn’t check it for her. She omitted her underwear and socks and so having put what she wore on Friday into the laundry, yesterday and today she was going without underwear, what some call commando!

There are no general rules in Christianity that forbid going to church without underwear, and it is generally considered a matter of personal choice, modesty (in the sense of not being revealing), and hygiene. The focus in most churches is on one's heart and intentions rather than specific clothing rules.

Here are some perspectives on the matter:
Biblical Guidance: The Bible provides general guidance on modesty and dressing respectfully, but it does not contain explicit instructions on wearing (or not wearing) underwear to church. The only specific mention of undergarments in the Bible concerns linen underclothes for Old Testament priests to cover their nakedness while ministering, a rule specific to that role and time.

Church Culture and Denomination: Dress codes vary widely depending on the specific church and denomination. While some traditional churches have more formal dress expectations, many contemporary churches are very casual and emphasize coming as you are. A few isolated, controversial incidents have been reported where specific pastors have made unusual mandates regarding underwear, but this is not a mainstream practice.

Personal Modesty and Discretion: The primary consideration for most Christian communities is that one's outer clothing should be modest and not cause distraction to others. As long as an individual feels they are appropriately covered and their clothing is not revealing, the choice of undergarments is a personal one.

Health and Comfort: From a practical standpoint, the decision can also be based on personal comfort and health considerations.

Ultimately, the intent of the heart and the desire to worship God are considered far more important than the specifics of one's attire, including undergarments. Chiara’s dress was not long enough to cover her knees but it is not apparent that anyone saw she wasn’t wearing undies when she went to the altar for the sacrament of the Eucharist.

The priests should always do underwear checks. Anyone not wearing underwear should get a spanking.
