The Apostle Paul And Jail

Sermon notes coming later but yesterday at church we had a guest preacher who made a great point I had never thought of before.

The Apostle Paul, when he was in jail, did not pray for the doors to be opened and for him to be released but he did pray for an opportunity for doors to be opened for the Gospel!

Learning this point I picture the Apostle Paul in 2nd Timothy, his last letter before his death, in chains and his only worldly possessions being his pen and parchments. Somehow at this time I don't think Paul was thinking of new age self help buzzwords like "Self Acceptance" and "Self Compassion".

You do not come first and the Christian walk is not about you, it is first and foremost about God's glory and secondly your brothers and sisters in Christ, may we learn to be like the Apostle Paul in life's trials, sent by God to strengthen us.
