Yesterday's talk

Yesterday was not a Bible study but a presentation on church membership by my pastor, I will also include my own comments as usual.

. What is a Christian? A Christian is someone who trusts alone on Christ's sacrifice- they would never dare trust in anything else or themselves knowing their sinfulness.

. Lots of people misuse the above point- they see this like an excuse to live however they want to (plenty of that on here). The Bible knows nothing about the absurd concept of taking Christ as Saviour but not as Lord!

. The Bible does not have a concept of lone wolf Christianity- reading my posts or other Christian posts (especially ones on here that put you in the centre of the universe) will not cause you to grow in Christ (hopefully mine provide a tad encouragement), get joining a local Gospel church! Besides, if you claim to be a Christian, why would you not love and want to be with God's people and serve in church? Are you above serving?

. The pastor went through the process of our church membership- you have to write down your testimony and members vote you in. Church discipline to us is withholding you from the Lord's supper, we do not practice excommunication as a church and my pastor would be mortified if we asked for permission to speak to a member under discipline, he'd reply "Of course you can x, we're not a cult".

. Lastly on the absurdity on those who profess Christ but don't read their Bible everyday- my pastor says "If I reach an old age, with my daily Bible reading, I won't have even began to scratch the surface of it's glory, to which an elderly Guyanan sister in Christ eagerly replied out loud "Amen!"
