Sermon Notes 23/11/25
Sermon based on 1 Kings 18:17-46
. He alone is the God that sends fire down from heaven!
. Ahab today is like many churches "Why don't we partner with progressive churches, King Charles's dry Christmas sermons, etc".
. On the judgement day you will bow the knee to Christ (God the Son) out of love for him entering into Heaven or in shame and ashes heading into hell.
. In your private life does your possesion of Christ match your possesion of Christ? Hear Matthew Henry's words "Christ will have all of you or none of you"
. If you die rejecting Christ's sacrifice, a worse fire than Elijah's day will consume you for all eternity.
. May your heart not be divided between ANYTHING in this world and Christ, you do not know how many days you have left.
. "I feel to sinful to pray", etc. We've all been there- it's not about you, it's about Christ and His glory!

A great sermon and we were all certainly woken up when my pastor slammed his fist with great force onto the pulpit and shouted along the lines of "WHEN THE FIRE CAME DOWN, THEN THEY WOKE UP!"
I deconstructed a couple of years back. Not in the "progressive" sense but in the sense I had a very evangelical "Jesus is your best buddy" mindset rather than viewing Him as the sovereign Lord of the universe.
In my deconstructed state I went to see my little nephew's Christmas decoration he made from his school on a Christmas tree at a church fetè, it was great seeing it but despite the window stains and icons, this time I knew that church was a dead church.
