A sister in Christ and dementia
Last night at the prayer meeting I was reminded of a member that now has dementia.
I thought to myself there will have been a last sermon she attended before awaiting the dreaded dementia result, the sermons in between her tests for dementia and most significantly the last sermon she attended before going into her care home.
She is close to death now as she is asleep the vast majority of the time my pastors and other members visit, she can't remember them, I can't imagine what it must be like to fellowship with someone, have all those memories, only for them to not recognise you. Want to see the power of God? Even though she has no idea who everyone is, she still quotes scripture and sings hymns better than you or I can!
The day is coming soon when she will pass away and people will have memories, both of fellowshipping with her pre dementia and the time at Caffe Nero when she had dementia, when she stood up to sing a hymn and the members joined in to avoid all the attention going to her, which ofcourse would have caused her distress.
She would have known her dementia will be even shorter than the vapour that her life was and when the day comes she will stand before the judgement seat of Christ and know that nothing from her hands she can bring, but simply to the cross she will cling! She will enter eternity forever in the presence of Christ, her dementia and suffering forever gone!
