God's grace is radcally offensive and a challenging point...
Like many of my pastor's points from sermons and Wednesday Bible studies at church some points have to be made into a post. Jonah 4:1-4.
Like many Jonah was offended at God's radical grace.
Here's a point-two people are on a plane- a man that has made a significant contribution to making the world better and a notorious actress who we know in the UK- for filtering and to avoid a rating I will say B B. You should know who I mean, certain antics on a camera that made the press.
B.B. has just become a Christian and hasn't really contributed anything to society by the world's standards but she has believed on Christ, the man who has contributed to the world and gives his time to charity refuses to believe on Christ because he is a "good person" (a sinner like the rest of us).
The plane crashes- who do you suppose is saved? The man certainly isn't as he has refused to believe on Christ and he will spend an eternity in hell. B.B. is saved as she has believed on Christ and knows good deeds outside of Christ are as rags.
The Gospel is offensive and we can see why some like Jonah are angry at God's radical grace.
The Challenge
During yesterday's Bible study, the pastor left us with a challenging message. If a person like a former murderer showed up at church would you show them God's grace?
Ofcourse for certain crimes safeguarding measures would absolutely have to be put in place if the church had any ethics, but it certainly got me thinking and challenged me.
Let the joy of repentant sinners be our joy, never our grief.
