Are you grateful?

On the way to the station for a weekend away something hit me all of a sudden.

I actually lack gratitude towards God in my life.

By myself after my daily Bible reading I mention God's glory and requests all the time (I realise in prayers with my wife it's just requests and this needs to improve) but there's one thing I never mention- my gratitude for the common graces God has given me.

All those prayers but no gratitude, I need to make it a habit to find things I am greatful for.

. My marriage- My family and my wife's family helped so much in making this happen and my family said it was the most fun wedding they've been too. But did we have a session praising God? Nope.

. Our house- By God's grace we found this shortly before our eviction and it's even better than a flat.

What's more we have a garden where I can now freely stargaze, set upma telescope and admire God's creation.

Gratitude to God? Hardly.

. God could have easily ended my wife and I's formerly sinful relationship but he gracefully allowed us to marry and has helped us grow in our relationship. Gratitude? Next to none.

Let us all grow and make it a habit in regularly thanking God- for the people we know, our family, our Bible believing church and think of many other points of prayer- church growth, thanking God for brothers and sisters in our life, etc.

If you have advice in regularly thanking God, let me know!

God is not going to control your situations nor interfere with your Free Will. You were gifted that, and if your choices had consequences, this too will he used for Good if you're keeping God centered in your lives.

I am sorry you had a non fruitful relationship, are you still together?
@Iwillwait We are happily married!

God absolutely does control our situations but he does not authorise our sin.

We have free will to an extent but God is absolutely sovereign.

I struggle with this a lot myself, I think it’s much easier to focus on the negative and not look at everything positive we have. I find trying to take a step back and refocus helps me when I need it. All it takes is a view from the outside in, to know that God has truly blessed us.

From Psalm 65, in Blank Verse

Our praise awaiteth Thee, O God, in Zion;
And unto Thee our vow shall be fulfilled.
To Thee that hearest pray'r, all flesh shall come;
And though iniquities 'gainst us prevail,
Yet Thou shalt purge away our every sin.
Blest are the ones whom Thou by grace hast chosen,
And bidst us come upon the latest day
To dwell within Thy sacred courts forever.
@Thinkerbell Amen sister great Psalm to add to the post!
