A monument? Or earth and stone hid by the bush?
On a hillside in Zike there is a site dedicated to the 51 brothers and sisters in Christ who lost their lives in the Zike attacks I previously mentioned.
Anything named in their honour? A monument? Nope, just a rectangle of earth and stone, already partially reclaimed by the bush.
This is where the service was held for them with much dancing and worship despite the tragic circumstances.
Danjuma (mentioned in my previous) article says "I have strength to comfort other people, I lost one member of my household, but others lost more".
May this let us reflect our own Christian attitude to trials and rethink the false prosperity theology that misquotes Jeremiah 29:11. This life is a pilgrimage and is all about the Gospel and God's glory. It's not about you.
In the image below we see the Rev Mark Mukan ministering to the people of Zike at the mass grave.
