Is God here to entertain us?

A viral video was posted on here about a bird saving a car from going over a cliff, sadly many believers appear to cling to miracles like this, as if they need additional proof of God.

Are these things in God's divine providence? Yes. But when we reduce our faith to watching these videos as external validation we risk reducing our faith journey to seeking outside validation.

We have the sacraments, prayer, fellowship with other believers and even the infinitely holy word of God himself, we do not need to rest our faith on such videos.

While we're going about in the West going "Look! A bird!" Our brothers and sisters in Christ across the world are suffering without any signs of miracles- they don't mess about with the words of Romans 8:18!!!!

We do not follow Christ because He entertains us. We do not cling to Him merely in hopes of witnessing a wonder. We follow Him because He is Lord, because He has redeemed us by His blood, and because He alone is our righteousness before God.

We cannot just talk about that bird miracle and ignore the seeming lack of one with the victims of a church bomb in Syria- as the body of Christ, we are not individualistic in our thinking but we share in the suffering of the body of Christ- we grieve for our brothers and sisters in Christ!

By the way- recipients of a alleged miracle are not saved by default- look at the ten lepers Christ healed- the man in the video or the Air India man may well be vessels of wrath- God will work his purposes in ways we don't understand.

So when sharing these alleged miracles let us not be tone deaf- while sharing that video did you remember to pray for the Christian Chibok mums who have not seen their daughters in over a decade and must be suffering unimaginable mental torment?

Our God is not a personal self help guru, serving God is not about singing "waymaker" and wanting your own personal miracle and God being a butler catering to your every problem on demand, but he is the infinitely holy God of the universe, who does not share his throne with anyone, he is infinitely glorious and this life is but a pilgrimage.

As Christians, we must think collectively as the Body of Christ and must not make our faith journey about ourselves.
