I am curious when did the church ever have any control over the public school system to abandon it?
Majority of the schools in the 1960s, 1950s, 1970s, song the national anthem or America the beautiful and recited pledge of allegiance before starting classes. Now there may have been a few teachers that may have wanted to say a prayer themselves at the beginning of class or some type of event. But that's not control.
There may have been a few schools that actually posted the Ten Commandments but that's not any form of control.
The only thing that most public schools did back then were nativity scenes at Christmas and Christmas pageants surrounding the birth of Christ. Which irritated the foreigners when they began to come in.
The government took out any form of religion to be displayed in schools, Christian's fought but lost the battle.
With my memory serves me right it was in 1980 when the supreme Court made that ruling.
