Sermon Notes Good Friday Special 2025
At my mum and dad's for the easter weekend so went to my former church which did a wonderful three hour service today with churches around the area! The three hours flew by!
. The chief priests... the crowds.... and you? Yes we are responsible like the crowds shouting "crucify" as our sins brought him to the cross! As Stuart Townsend sings "Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there"
. Where were the crowd who Jesus fed? Where were the blind he healed? Nowhere to be seen to defend him from the crowd shouting "crucify him!" He was all alone!
. Jesus asks us today: "Will you take up your cross and follow me?"
. On the cross God ABSOLUTELY poured out his wrath on Christ (God the Son) rightfully meant for us- every last drop! The vicar said "Absolutely" the way I wrote it to emphasise.
. Curtain torn= that's it, we can know come into God's presence as Gentiles throughthe cross of Christ!
. The centurion who must have seen death tons of deaths saw Christ's death and was terrified- he saw the power of Christ's death and knew the world wouldn't be the same- "Truly this was the Son of God!"
Below, a demonstrative image of the cup of God's wrath, reminding us of the seriousness of our sin, I don't think I need to do introductions for the second one!
