Ruth and a reccomendation

The daily Bible reading plan took me to one of my favourite Bible books- the book of Ruth, I don't know why but I always get moved by that story!

It's amazing if you think about it- Ruth's decision to leave her family behind to go with her mother in law, the long journey by foot and no WhatsApp video calls, cars or planes back then! No doubt if Ruth had access to WhatsApp she was from a culture where WhatsApp is on with both parties in the background, everyone is there but only the occasional comment is made 🤭

I can't imagine the reaction of Ruth's family members at the prospect of never seeing her again in order to follow her mother in law but she took that decision- and she will forever be in the genealogy of Christ!

Other things I think about is what the long journey entailed, the people they met, etc and the culture.

On the note of culture lots of our movies Westernise the way Bible characters spoke and acted, etc but there is a great movie that doesn’t and it accurately portrays biblical culture- Song of Solomon- an actor in it is Jason Croot, it's available on Amazon Prime but is so rare there are no YouTube clips of it. Watching it will really help you think about how Biblical scenes played out and how they acted. The pace of life, social beaurocracy in decision making, talking in a round about manner when there is a large group of people, etc.
