The Beatific Vision
"Knowledge of God is the happiness of the soul"
"The knowledge and fruition of God composeth our happiness"
wrote Charnock.
As the Westminster Cathecism states "The chief end of man is to glorify God"
Our highest joy should be God- as St Augustine put it- God made us for himself and only in God can we find true rest.
As Christians we should focus on the beatific vision- one day we will truly see Christ face to face in all of his glory- and we'll be doing it with other Christians in glory too- both with Christians we know and also with Christians we have read about!
I don't know about you, but the above really struck me while writing it! We will do it in perfected glory too!
We can get a very minor taste of seeing the glory of Christ now ofcourse- and even this will change of our lives!
The article from the 'Banner Of Truth' I have summarised concludes with the following hymn:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
