Here are five things that the world tells you but Jesus never said:
No. 1 Follow your heart. Jesus never said to follow your heart. He said follow me and that the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
No. 2 The world always says be true to yourself. Jesus never said to be true to yourself. Jesus said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." Jesus never said be true to yourself. He said to deny yourself.
No. 3 The world always says believe in yourself. Jesus never said believe in yourself. He said believe in me and "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
No. 4 Live your truth. Jesus never said to live your truth. Instead, in response to Pilate wanting to know who Jesus is, Jesus said, "...To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice." and Jesus also said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Don't live your truth. Live his truth.
No. 5 The world says as long as you're happy, that's all that matters. Jesus never said that in his word. He said, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" The word also says, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it."
Stop listening to what the world has to say and start listening to what the word of God has to say.
