Sermon Notes 09/02/25

Went to the Wednesday Bible Study church today as the restaurant for my nephew's birthday was close by!

Lovely service and it was great to see the baby of my my wife and I's friends all healthy and curious to see everyone!

. The opening prayer the pastor did. My goodness the prayer. With his usual style a great prayer for revival, focusing on everyone's spiritual state and the prayer for revival of our nation was amazing and heartfelt- easily several minutes but probably longer.

. You were born because God ordained it. God created you to know him- but you can only know God through saving faith in Christ- everyone's eternity is in heaven or hell- THAT IS IT.

. My pastor's mum went to a nun run school. She once overheard the chief nun saying to the other nun "I get to choose where I sit as I'm holier than you are". WICKED WICKED WICKED! We can never boast to anyone- we are saved solely on Christ alone. Woe betide you if you ever think you are more righteous than a teen single mum, drug addict, illegal alien, etc. We are saved by Christ alone and he invites EVERYONE.

. True happiness and fulfillment can only be found in Christ alone- not in your football team, not in your marriage, not in your politics (which will all be gone in 4-5 years by the way) not even in your own personal health- but in Christ alone!

. "Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to the cross I cling" we are but beggars in the dust.

Also forgot to say with our friends, the couple- let's call them A and D. A's mum was there visiting for a few months from Brazil (grandma to the baby) and helping the couple- our friend A was whispering to her mum the sermon in Brazilian Portuguese, while our pastor was preaching.

The pastor gave the sermon notes to A, so A's mum had her own special sermon sheet in Brazilian Portuguese too which A prepared for her!

“When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” — Luke 14:8-11
@Thinkerbell Great verse to contribute! Amen sister!

Amen! As the old hymn confirms.... On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.
@LadyGrace Love that hymn- it is a regular in our normal church we go too!
