Exodus 3 God speaks to Moses

Moses and the Burning Bush
1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”

And Moses said, “Here I am.”

5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you[b] will worship God on this mountain.”

13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”

14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.[c] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord,[d] the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’

“This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation.

16 “Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt. 17 And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.’

18 “The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God.’ 19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. 20 So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.

21 “And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed. 22 Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians.”

Is there any point you are trying to make or are you just posting Scripture for the sake of posting Scripture. Yes I agree it is absolutely historical but without a point in posting it......

@hippyjoe1955 I am going through the entire bible one chapter at a time. God has put it on my heart to dedicate my life to loving him, and witnessing my life and posting one chapter at a time here. I love people and I want to share the only hope we have in life, Jesus! 😊

@Carazaa How many years have you been a Christian and how many times have you read the Bible?
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 I read the Bible daily and I reread once a year, for the last 55 years. I wasn't allowed to attend church as a child except when I visited my grandma. So, I just read a Bible that I came across as a child. I am not influenced by any false churches because I refuse to read religious books. I read a lot, have two graduate degrees, and a professional degree, but not religious books only the Holy Bible, because I don't want to be influenced by anyone but Jesus.

@Carazaa I'm not big into reading other books as well but I can not say that I never read any. The classics are classics for a reason. They have a lot of insights that Jesus can use to give us a deeper faith. I would never say that one replaces the Bible with other writings but often those other writings are used by God to challenge us in our own preconceptions. We read the Bible through the filter we were given when we were first Christian. Was that filter correct? Jesus wants us to become deeper Christians so I don't limit Him by saying "Bible Only". Yes I compare the books I read to Biblical Truth but I still read. One of the most profound lesson I learned came from reading the Council of Orange.

@hippyjoe1955 I have read all the classics (my undergrad major was English), I am addicted to knowledge. and I have read many novels, biographies, science books, etc just as I said. I also studied other religions in college alongside the Bible.

I just don't read religious books besides the Bible (books where people write about the Bible) Many churches add their own interpretation to the Bible when they have other books at Bible study reading other peoples views on Matthew, Mark Luke and John, etc. If we have the Holy Spirit, God speaks to our hearts. I am no longer involved with Bible studies where they buy books to read. That's nonsense to me.

@Carazaa So you don't know your own prejudices?
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955
I know I am a sinner so yes I do know my faults. And the reason I read the Bible is so I can have discernment between God and Satan, so I won't be deceived. God saved me. I did not save myself. God chose me before the foundation of the world Ephesians 1:4 I did not choose God. "We are dead in our trespasses, dead" Noone can choose God when we are dead. That's why Jesus waited 4 days until Lazarus stunk to raise him. He did not raise himself.

Churches are invaded by Satan. They twist scriptures and make people believe they are saved when they are following Satan.
"Satan comes as an angel of light"

How do we know who belong to Jesus.
"Keep my commands, love God, and your neighbor as yourself"
We are known for our love. We care about people.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa The reason I read other authors is to challenge my prejudices of what I read when I read the Bible. I know the Holy Spirit uses them to help me hone my beliefs. So in your post you cited the Name of God (Yahweh, Jehovah) does that mean anything to you?
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 How do you know they are born again when you read other religious materials? You don't. If they are not then they aren't inspired by the Holy Spirit. If someone is not born again they would not only twist scripture but they would start talking politics or economics or conspiracy theories or nonsense. All you need is the Bible, in these last days!

Because Jesus will come within a few years or even this year. God is dividing sheep from goats, right now. He an angel will fly to every nation and tongues and spread the gospel and then the end. The end days are marked by deception and cold hearts. Jesus said many would fall asleep. Many are asleep thinking they follow Jesus when they are really deceived.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa What difference does 'born again' make? Many so called born again Christians are cheering for Satan.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 Born again is The Holy Spirit coming into our hearts and changing our hearts from cold to loving. The mark of a born again Christian is they are loving! If someone is not loving they are not a christian. Then God never changes their hearts at all.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa Define love. The fact is there are a lot of 'born again' who do evil deeds. They have wrong ideas. They lead others astray.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 A born again Christian is marked by loving our enemies and praying for those who despitefully use us. We have the love of God in us, and God gives us wisdom supernaturally. They have the fruit of the spirit in action.
The fruit of the Spirit
Love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control,
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa Nice theory but not exactly true. Let me ask you a question. As a woman do you cover your head when you pray? 1 Cor 11: 1-16
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955

A womans hair is our covering that we are under God, and our husband. Women don't lose their hairlike men, we are covered.

But remember we do not go to heaven because we are righteous or wear a scarf or are obedient to God. We go because of Jesus' righteousness.

Some churches teach that we have to be righteous to go to heaven. We are sinners and only Jesus covers our sins, not our hats, scarfs, or good deeds. Our good deeds are evidence of being born again!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa I guess you didn't read the Bible then. You are completely wrong. Paul uses two words both of which get translated into covering. The words are very different and have very different meanings. Let me try to explain using Born Again language. Paul mentions three glories. The Glory of God. The glory of man and the glory of woman. Man is the Glory of God. Woman is the glory of man and hair is the glory of woman. In God's economy only one Glory is to be exposed. The Glory of God is to remain uncovered. The glory of man is to wear a veil which serves to cover the glory of woman as well.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 Ok thank you, I just try to be pleasing to God; to love him first, and to love my neighbor as myself. That is all Jesus requires from us.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa Except when we chose to be disobedient. Wilful disobedience to His instructions are not loving. As Paul wrote "We have no other practice nor do the churches of God. IOW if you are not doing it after you know you should be doing it then you are no longer in the church of God.
