Genesis 45- Joseph Makes Himself Known to his brothers who had tried to kill him. He said "what you meant for evil, God meant for good."

45 Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it.

3 Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.

4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! 5 And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. 6 For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. 7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. [a]

8 “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt. 9 Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don’t delay. 10 You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me—you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have. 11 I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.’

12 “You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you. 13 Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”

14 Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him.

16 When the news reached Pharaoh’s palace that Joseph’s brothers had come, Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased. 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and return to the land of Canaan, 18 and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land.’

19 “You are also directed to tell them, ‘Do this: Take some carts from Egypt for your children and your wives, and get your father and come. 20 Never mind about your belongings, because the best of all Egypt will be yours.’”

21 So the sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them carts, as Pharaoh had commanded, and he also gave them provisions for their journey. 22 To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels[b] of silver and five sets of clothes. 23 And this is what he sent to his father: ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other provisions for his journey. 24 Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t quarrel on the way!”

25 So they went up out of Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. 26 They told him, “Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt.” Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them. 27 But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. 28 And Israel said, “I’m convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

Our relationship with God is now based on the grace given through Jesus, rather than adherence to the old law. So the mentioned passages hold no more significance.

So the mentioned passages hold no more significance.
This story is amazing and gives me so much encouragement when people are mean. The young boy Joseph forgave his evil brothers who wanted to kill him! What an amazing lesson for us. Jesus says love your enemies, and pray for those who despitefully use you. We can't understand grace until we understand how sinful we are. and what we deserve, death. The old testament teaches us what we deserve.

@Carazaa Agreed, It is good as a story. Just like our favorite movies and TV shows Joseph's story is likable. Beyond that it should not have any relevance. Definitely not from a scripture point of view. From spiritual point of view we need to follow Jesus alone.

@Amish I don't watch movies or tv other than news, because it is not Gods word.

Jesus said, "Do not think I have come to abolish the law or the prophets, I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them" Matt 5:17

"All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" Tim 3:16-

@Carazaa Even the news on TV is not God's word. Anyways let's keep that aside.
Coming back to Tim 3:16, we should not take it out of context. Jesus was mentioning about the new testament. All scripture doesn't include Old testament, otherwise all the scriptures (Hindu, Buddhist and other easer religious scriptures become part of that). All believers are called to focus on the New Testament, where Christ's teachings provide the ultimate truth and direction for our faith. While learning about Abraham, Joseph and Israel has historical value, it should not hold more significance than that, as the New Testament fulfills and transcends the Old Testament in guiding our faith.

Genesis is Gods word just like these verses below.

John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it[
a]

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

@Carazaa John 1 does indeed present 'the Word' as divine, but it doesn’t explicitly say that 'the Word' equals Jesus in the context of the Old Testament. The passage itself focuses on the divine Word's role in creation, not directly identifying it as Jesus, the Son of God. The relationship between God the Father and Jesus the Son is distinct, and the New Testament further clarifies this distinction.

John 1
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

"Through him all things were made:";

Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth

3. God said "Let there be light"

@Carazaa Genesis 1 is an account of the physical creation of the universe, focusing on the formation of the heavens, the earth, and all life as per old testament, which is no more a reference for Christians as taught by Jesus.
John 1 is a theological reflection on Jesus' divine nature and role in salvation, using metaphorical language. The focus of John 1 is not on material creation but on the incarnation and mission of Jesus as the "Word.
Carazaa · F
@Amish Jesus created ALL things. I think you need to read the Bible!

@Carazaa Please don't get yourself confused. All these has no interconnection to old testament. It is separate. All of Jesus's teachings are present in New Testament and it is enough for us. Jesus is son of God. God gave life to us through Jesus, that's all what John 1 says. Please, please... lets not try to make a fiction out of it by forming an imaginary connection to old testament. For Jesus' sake please...

@Carazaa His teachings introduced a new way of living based on grace and love, as seen throughout the New Testament. To clear your confusion, Jesus didn’t focus on specific Old Testament laws but used this statement to engage with His audience at the time and uplift them to a higher calling—His way, encapsulated in His teachings in the Sermon on the Mount. As such, Christians today are called to follow the New Testament, which fully reveals His way of life and salvation.

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another."(John 13:34-35:)

"For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace."(Romans 6:14:)

"For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’" ("For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’"(Galatians 5:14:)

This simply implies every existing law during that period (not specifically any law or scripture; instead all laws that mankind were following during that time) is fulfilled and NOT VALID ANYMORE. Only law that matters now are 1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Nothing else matters!
