Haiti and the ultimate sacrifice

Davy and Natalie Lloyd, two American missionaries were killed in Haiti in May this year by armed gangs.

They were in Haiti to help spread the Gospel and to also provide aid to the youth of Haiti.

They were soon due to be celebrating a wedding anniversary- I'm sure they envisioned themselves growing old together and spending precious moments with grandchildren, but this was not to be.

Their last conscious moments on this earth were not spend in their home Country of the USA but spent fleeing gunfire from Haitian gangs.

But we know that they are now in heaven, the last terrifying moments of their life but a distant memory- and in the new earth they will see their beloved Haiti- a Haiti that will be free from suffering, corruption and violence.

How can we know the above? By trusting that Christ shed his blood on the cross for our sins and that by believing this we can get to heaven when we die, our sin was paid for on that cross.

We can get three things from this amazing couple's story:

1. Their faith should inspire us to be bold in preaching the Gospel and showing Christ's love by helping others.

2. That we must pray for our Haitian brothers and sisters in Christ- that they may be shining beacons of hope to their Country and that they may be safe.

3. Davy and Natalie Lloyd knew that the armed gangs that killed them are not too far gone to be saved (noone is) - and we should remember this too!

It is not "The Lord is partly my portion," nor "The Lord is in my portion"; but he himself makes up the sum total of my soul's inheritance.

The Lord is our all-sufficient portion. God fills himself; and if God is all-sufficient in himself, he must be all- sufficient for us.

Charles Spurgeon Morning And Evening, November 16th
