The fall of a once great Christian leader
So I was watching an episode of Joe Kirby on Youtube and he revealed a great man of God had been caught in a huge sin but didn't mention who. Well, treating myself to a pizza while watching a Justin Peters episode on YouTube Justin revealed the man- Steven Lawson.
I will confirm- THE Steven J Lawson. Yes, there was some denial- it doesn't help that the man dealing with the case was Phil Johnson of John Macarthur's church (Phil Johnson does look like a supervillain from the TV series 'Billions' 🤭).
The man who preached the unforgettable sermon 'it will cost you everything' about the radical sacrifice of discipleship to Christ was caught in an affair with a younger woman.
How should we respond to this as Christians?
First, this is the ultimate case for what I have said for a long time- we must not have Christian role models- we should only look to Christ who will never let us down, never leave us and rules on his throne in heaven.
Second- we must pray for his family and for healing. We must pray for him too- that he may examine himself and see if he is truly in Christ- and either way have genuine Godly sorrow and repentance.
Third- Pray the same for the younger woman too.
And lastly a great point from the Banner Of Truth:

‘I would never do that, so I’m better than him.’ He who puts his armour on should not boast as one who takes it off. (1 Kings 20:11). Wait until you’re safely in heaven before you start talking about things you would never do. Robert Murray M’Cheyne was one of the godliest men of his generation, but he said that the seeds of all sins were in his heart. A little water and the right conditions and who knows what poisonous fruit our hearts could bring forth. Make sure you have close friends who will keep you accountable.
