The Book of Job in a nutshell:

God: "Job is a good man. I will torture him to see if he stays good.
Job: "Why is God punishing me?"
Job's friends: "It must be your fault."
Job: "I am undeserving, but it’s not my fault."
Elihu: "God is greater than all of us."
God: "Yes, I am greater than all of you."
Job: "You are powerful, I’m sorry."
God: "Right answer. I'll stop torturing you now."

That’s it. No moral lesson in those forty chapters. No answer for suffering. No reasoning, no redeeming social values to the graphic violence. The point of the book is simply: "The Lord is powerful. He can make you suffer. Don’t ask why, Be faithful. Might makes right. God can do whatever he wants."

I read somewhere that with each of our sufferings we create treasures in the spiritual world, so in the end the most beautiful spiritual life can be had by those who have suffered the most, people who have had various diseases and disabilities all their lives
