Church Notes

Today at the very last minute my wife had to go down to her family business and grab the car so went to our Wednesday Bible study church for Sunday service.

As usual the sermon was convicting and the fellowship, as usual lasted longer than the sermon!

The sermon notes:

. The beauty of the doctrine of God and finding out his works, etc. New believers may be overwhelmed with the amount to learn but even believers who have been saved for decades have much to learn!

. The pastor quoted Robert Murray M'cheyne: "For every look at yourself, take ten looks at Christ"

. The pastor quoted Isaiah "grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever." Societies views and political movements will constantly change and die but God's word will stand for all eternity.

. Marriage boils down to this- it is a symbol of the relationship between Christ and his church.

. Soul anxiety (realising we have a soul) and worrying about the soul's final destiny is one of the Greatest blessings God can give us.

. The rich young ruler actually had a far more reverential attitude to Christ than the pharisees- but one thing held him back. How many people will not come to Christ and consequently will be damned for all eternity over that one thing that stops them?

. What we forsake in this life we will be re-compensated for- the pastor has had many secular family members no longer talk to him but he has gained many new family members in Christ!

. In prayer let us remember this encouraging verse from God's word: "All things are possible"
Amen. All things are possible through Christ who strengthens us.

I've never heard of soul anxiety. Christ awareness certainly is necessary and that's why God gave us a conscience so that we would know within ourselves that we do have a spirit that is eternal and needs to be prepared for the afterlife if it wants to get to the right place. But once we have been united in Christ, we are secure in Him. He promised not to abandon us and he keeps his word.

I like your thoughts about the church. In marriage, we are to treat our spouse as Christ treats the church. And that is with reverence and respect. Some people don't really realize the meaning of the union and unique oneness in marriage. It is sacred because you are uniting two spirits as one, as Christ does his church. That is not to be taken lightly and people just giving themselves to anyone. Spiritually it means a lot.
@LadyGrace Thanks so much! Although these are the notes from the Pastor's sermon!

Church is still another half hour away here. We are behind you time wise.
@Musicman Excellent, Christ centred, Biblical sermons are always good for the soul!

@BritishFailedAesthetic Right now the sermons are from the book of John and he is doing God's "I Am's".
@Musicman Indeed the sacred phrase, the fact that Christ uttered it himself shows he is God the son!
