Christianity a religion of peace?

King Olaf Tryggvason of Norway to the pagan folk or Orkney 995 AD:

"I order you and all your subjects to be baptised. If you refuse, I'll have you killed on the spot and I swear I will ravage every island with fire and steel."
- The Orkneyinga Saga Ch 12

It doesn’t sound all that different to the videos made by Islamic State ten years ago. Another poisonous Abrahamic religion…

Please show me the Bible verse where its OK for government to mandate Christian religious practices. Just because this King Olaf got it wrong does not make it all wrong. Jesus said, give to God what is God's, give to Caesar (the emperor) what is Caesar's. Go ahead - I'll wait for you to come up with the Bible verse where government mandates baptisms.

@graphite okay

Samuel commands Saul "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass" (1 Samuel 15:3)

Exodus 22:18 – Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

Leviticus 20:27 – A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

@Ceinwyn Old Testament. Not seeing a single word about baptism here. The Old Testament is obsoleted by the New Testament. Go ahead - don't believe in Christ. Your call. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Corinthians 13:
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

@graphite à la carte Christianity.

I’d say your god changed his mind. But his followers say he isn’t allowed to do that.

@Ceinwyn statement of BS - actually we don't say God is not allowed to change his mind.
