My eyes being hindered by blind passions,
I cannot perceive the light that grasps me;
Yet the great compassion, without tiring,
Illumines me always
(Shinran, from "Hymns of the Pure Land Masters")
And the Christian Julian of Norwich on the same theme......
If there be anywhere on earth a lover of God who is always kept safe, I know nothing of it, for it was not shown to me. But this was shown: that in falling and rising again we are always kept in that same precious love.
The heart of gratitude grows. That we have been chosen. That God''s love is eternal and comes first. In which we live and move and have our being.
So it is not getting in our own devotional at all. Grace has come first. Or in our own efforts not to run away.

I think he may have been talking about a life time rather then an average day... Those who run away from God early in their lives will find it harder to find Him in their later years..
@Adstar Interesting, not the way I read it.

And to quote Muse:
“I’ll show you a god who falls asleep on the job.”
