Is it possible to maintain friendship with church people if you suddenly stop attending said church?

I mean I know it's possible. But as to how long it lasts...I don't know.

In my experience, it does not last.

No, in my experiences in the past they shun you and then spread hateful gossip about you. I will not participate in organized religion.

@SW-User been there too.
But remember they are just sinners who need forgiveness.

@SW-User I totally understand where you're coming from. They just totally act as if they are untouchable. Yes, sinners that need forgiveness. I was told by a church and a Christian therapist that I was possessed by demons because I battle mental illness. I was even baptized again because they had me believing it was truth.

@SW-User I hope things are better now for you.

Are you sure it's a legit therapist who said that or just a church counselor?
Which church?

It reminds me of Mary's story in the netflix show 'The Chosen'.

@Casheyane Yes, it was a legit christian therapist....it was a southern Baptist church.....the Christian counselor told me that I needed to begin attending church on a regular basis to heal. I had verses from the bible shoved down my throat....I was told so many things I did were evil that caused my mental illness and I became possessed. I was an addict seeking help too. I used pills and alcohol to numb my pain from the mental illness.....bipolar and BPD.....I had no idea. This was years ago, I'm good now and on proper medications. I've been sober for almost 17 years now.

@SW-User Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is to fight for ourselves. :)

Commend yourself for your success. It's alright. You did great.
SW-User
@Casheyane That is so true.....I made the decision on my own to become sober......I fought through it all alone. I became strong and supported myself and said enough.....grow up and deal....
