Why are there so many different Christian denominations?

I was talking with my sister about how Christianity is unique in that there is a wide range of denominations and beliefs. The downside though, is that those different beliefs tend to clash. I've observed arguments between Christians of different denominations all because one has a totally different belief system and it's like a foreign language.

I moved from the least religious state in the Union to the middle of the Bible belt. I swear there is a church on every block. The Church of Latter Day Baptist Adventist Methodists Calvinist Revisionists. It's ridiculous. Religion isn't about faith, they are businesses like fast food restaurants.
