People started to wear crosses to give them a reminder of what Jesus went through on earth to save them from the eternal lake of fire...
I am a Christian and have been one for over 30 years now and i have never heard anyone state that wearing a cross proves their love for God.. So maybe that's just an impression you have picked up somewhere..
I personally have not worn a cross since i became a Christian in my early 20's.. I don't need a reminder.. I have no problem with other Christians wearing crosses if they chose to do so.. It's not a big deal within the Christian community either way..

@Adstar I have talked with multiple people who have said that wearing a cross shows others that they are soldiers of the Christ, or followers of Jesus Christ when I asked them why they wore a cross around their neck, or a pendant on their clothing, or bracelet with a cross.

@seotelkniwt That's fair enough for them. But it does not mean you have to wear a cross to believe those things.

@Zeusdelight I absolutely agree. The Bible says we must follow Jesus' footsteps carefully and there is no mention of the wearing of a cross, or special garb, or high sounding titles to show or prove that one is a true christians.

@seotelkniwt Messiah is a fairly high-sounding title. The cross and special garbs and titles are not traps, it is the importance people give to them just like the love of money.

@Zeusdelight It's sad that people put more importance on outward religious appearances rather than work on the inner person that's pleasing to God. So the question is where in the Bible did God and His son Jesus tell christians in the Greek Scriptures to have all those fancy sounding titles, and endless rituals, and fancy religious garb?
Messiah is from the Hebrew root verb ma•shach', meaning "smear", and so "anoint" (Exodus 29:2 and verse 7). Messiah (ma•shi'ach) means "anointed" or "anointed one". The Greek equivalent is Khri•sros', or Christ (Matthew 2:4).

@seotelkniwt Aren't you putting importance on that when you say this" "Recitals and chants that modern day Pharisees and Sadducees recite does not prove that one has God's approval." Looking at the external rather than the inner person.

@Zeusdelight Yes I absolutely am because it's the truth.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@seotelkniwt So you are really saying that it is not the inner person that counts?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Zeusdelight I couldn't disagree with you more.

@Zeusdelight Yes the inner person or what we are on the inside, in our figurative heart is what matters to God. He doesn't go by outward appearances or a showy display of head knowledge. God is concerned about us walking our talk not just saying I love Jesus or profess Jesus and his Heavenly Father, He, God wants us to prove it.

Well some do use it as a recognizable symbol to let other people know they are a Christian.. Maybe they are the more passive Christians who do not want to bring up the topic of Jesus and so they where the cross thinking that maybe someone they meet will be interested enough to ask about Christianity / Jesus..
I don't like the term Solider of Christ personally.. I do not believe in engaging in carnal combat.. I believe Jesus preached against His followers engaging in such activity.. But there are some who use the term in a symbolic way and they don't mean it in that way..

@seotelkniwt The term Messiah a Hebrew term was revealed in the Bible. The Greek translation of it is ""Christ"" and that's why now most Christians say Jesus Christ.. It reveals what Jesus did/does.
As for the fancy titles like Priest, or pope or most reverend yes most of those titles are just inventions of men and have nothing to do with Christianity..
