Daily Word for Christians...Here's the scripture to meditate on!
2 Timothy 4:17 (NLT)
"But the Sovereign Lord stood with me and gave me strength so that I might preach the Good News in its entirety for all the Gentiles to hear. And he rescued me from certain death."
Analysis of the Daily Word
Are we in a circumstance where our family is opposed to us serving God? Do we live in a country where our work is highly restricted or even prohibited? If so, we can encourage ourselves and others when reading (2 Timothy 1:12-16 | 4:6-11, and 17-22) The apostle Paul wrote this part of the Scriptures when he was in prison. Before reading those verses, let's tell God about our problem and how we feel in prayer. Be specific. Let us ask God to help us find principles in Paul's example to guide us in our case. God had warned Paul that he would be persecuted for being a Christian. (Acts 21:11-13)
How did God help Paul?
He answered his prayers and gave him strength. He also assured him that he would receive a reward he had worked for and encouraged Paul's loyal friends to give him practical help.
What biblical account will we analyze?
Has a friend or family member betrayed our trust? In that case, we can benefit from reviewing the account of a son of King David named Absalom, who betrayed his father and tried to take the kingdom from him. (2 Samuel 15:5-14, and 31 | 18:6-14)
What can we do to help God?
Here's a principle we can learn from this account! #1 Pray. With the story in mind, let us specifically tell God in prayer how we feel about being treated badly. Then let's ask Him to help us find the principles that show us what to do in our individual circumstances. (Psalm 6:6-9)
How would we summarize the account of David and Absalom?
Imagine. Let's think about what this story tells us and imagine how all this affected King David. His son Absalom struggled for years to endear himself to the people. (2 Samuel 15:7) When he thought the time was right, he sent spies throughout Israel to prepare the people to accept him as King. He even persuaded Ahithophel, David's close friend and adviser, to join the rebellion. Absalom then declared himself King and tried to capture and kill his father, who may have been seriously ill at the time. (Psalm 41:1-9) When David found out about it, he fled from Jerusalem. Afterward, Absalom's army confronted the men loyal to David. Eventually, the rebel army lost the battle, and Absalom was defeated.
