Chronicles of a Christian Teen #12

[b][center]Mental Health?

While it seems to be silent from the outside, it can be a destroyer on the inside. It's hard to realize how much control the mind has until we face the difficult situations that alarm us. We often let these troubling times consume us and affect our mental health. We allow our circumstances to determine our well-being, that is, cognitively, behaviorally, and emotionally. Our mind affects many aspects of our lives such as our routines, mood, health, and relationships. However, when are we going to allow God to take over? We are susceptible to complex circumstances and persecution as Christians. Jesus spoke of this matter in John 16:33 (NLT) where it says: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

While yes, we would be hit with trouble, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually...Jesus has overcome the world and we can do just the same. It won't be easy but in order to do such, we will need to have faith, and confidence, as well as do our part in praying to God constantly. A common thought that exists among those who are struggling is "I can't do this on my own." Correct, yes. However, we can overcome our troubles and issues if we hand over some of those burdens and allow God to take over. Jesus spoke of this in Philippians 4:13 (NLT) where it says: "I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

Our imperfections in nature drive us to think God has left us and that "we'll never get better". But, that is far from the truth. God has never left us. He reassures this to us in Isaiah 41:10 (NLT) says: "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my right hand of righteousness." Hebrews 13:5-6 (NLT) says: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can men do to me?"

He has been here the whole time and with every step we take, God will never leave you. He will restore us and He will strengthen us through these trials. Believe that! Marinate that knowledge into our hearts. 1 Peter 5:7-10 (NLT) says: "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the Devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of tribulation and sufferings. The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast." Don't let the Devil and his wicked friends manipulate your mind with his lies and tricks. What he wants from this experience is to have you compromise your relationship and bond with Good. He wants you to believe that you'll never get better because he doesn't want you to awaken and reach your fullest potential.

You will get better, you will get through this, and you will come out of this stronger. I know you feel like giving up and the pressure seems a little much. While it seems like the easier option, you know in your heart it is not the right way. You do need to give one thing up, however, and that is control. You don't need to take on the weight of it all and you don't need to do the fighting, because God wants to take on both just for you. All you have to do is allow Him into our hearts and He will do justice for you. Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) says: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Psalm 37:5-6 (NLT) says: "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this." It's time to start trusting, opening your hearts, and allowing God to take control of your life. Don't keep your struggles in. Pray to God! Allow him to take care of your issues before you allow the Devil to use them against you.
