Chronicles of a Christian Teen #8
Comparison?
You've heard it said best that "comparison is the thief of joy". To be quite honest, it's so true! So often we find ourselves comparing our personalities, looks, and possessions with others. Whether that be those around us, those we don't know, or even celebrities, maybe. They seem to have it all and therefore we feel as if we don't. In reality, we don't honestly know what could be happening in their lives. We only focus on what we see on the outside. We tend to focus on the negative things in our lives instead of the positive things we could contribute.
If we feel as if something about us or our lives isn't good enough, we struggle to be content. Hebrews 13:5 (NLT) says: "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." No matter what we do have or don't have, every one of us shares the most important thing that reigns above all: God. We are exceptionally blessed, beautiful, and loved. Don't ever let your shortcomings be the downfall to your contentment, that is what the fleshly world traps you into thinking.
When we put these truths into practice and believe them, we find contentment in our true identity, being God's servant. Songs of Solomon 7:6 (NLT) says: "How beautiful you are and how pleasing, my love, with your delights!" When you live your life knowing you are extraordinarily loved by God, there will be no room left for comparison. God created us in His perfect images and formed you creatively and carefully, just the way He wanted to. He wants us to flourish and He has a dedicated plan just for you! You are unique! Don't waste your facets and purposes wishing you had someone else's.
Embrace who you are, because who you are is in Him. Living confident in this, we will find true joy in who we are, what we look like, and what we have to contribute to this life. Don't let comparison rob you of your joy or prevent you from accomplishing your purpose. Galatians 6:4 (NLT) says: "Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else."
Amen 😇❤️🌹
