Jesus said "Take up your cross and follow me. Wearing a cross is much more common among the adherents to the ancient forms of Christianity than among the newer 'reformed/protestant/evangelical' forms of Christianity. I don't wear one even though I am a pastor but my son who became orthodox does wear one.

@hippyjoe1955 I don't wear one. Even in my childhood as a catholic i never wore one.. But i have no problem with other Christians choosing to wear one out of remembrance for what Jesus went through to save us.. I do however disagree with those who believe that it has some kind of power or ward off evil or use it as a good luck charm..

@Adstar I agree with you on that point. The power is in the Blood and the Spirit not in some amulet such are the crosses worn as jewelry. What really bothers me is the church leaders who wear large crosses as if to show off their 'holiness'.

By wearing a cross the child feels the love of God and gives the child hope and strength to overcome any obstacle in his or her life. Some Christians believe that the wearing of a cross offers protection from evil, while others, Christian and non-Christian, wear cross necklaces as a fashion accessory
