Jesus is the greatest friend of all because Jesus is such a phenomenal individual, shouldn't we strive to be the same? Jesus is kind, compassionate, loving, humble, and genuine.
Therefore, we too should imitate these characteristics. These qualities will reside in us when our connection to God's Word is strong. Spending time with our "Good Friend" will inspire our hearts to be extraordinary friends to others.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT) says: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"
Sometimes, friendships can be rocky. Fights or disagreements may be had. Although it can be extremely difficult and emotionally draining to love our friends during these hard times, Jesus still wants us to love them unconditionally.
Who should we consider to be "Our Friends"? Well, Jesus died for the sins of all people. He considered every single person who has lived, is living and will live on this earth, his friend. This includes people we may not like, or who may not like us. People may have wronged you, but yet we should still love and pray for them. We have wronged Jesus thousands of times, and yet his love has never failed to continue to thrive for us.
1 John 3:16 (NLT) says: "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."
The greatest thing we, as friends, can do is spread God's Word - whether that be to your close friends or a complete stranger. Your love for them will shine, but even better, they will see God's love shine through you.
