Well, yes, but Jesus is not just an ideal. Jesus is ALIVE. And is the one that healed the sick, possesed, and preformed miracles. He still does in our own lives because He puts Himself in the middle of our affairs.
When you become a Christian you are unknowingly becoming more like Christ, no matter who you are and what ails you, you make decisions and actions, which are more Christ-like. Granted, you will be flawed in that decision making, but the point is:
Once you're a Christian, your life isn't your own. You live for Jesus and what He has planned for you.
All that said, in the report:
The gunman had a history of domestic abuse against his wife and child.
He was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force.
Had no connection to the church.
And that this was premeditated in the way of him being prepared to shoot up the place (wearing tactical armor and driving 35 miles from his home to the church)
That's alot of time passing by for any sensable conscience and the holy spirit to urge him away from that evil thinking that's if he was even saved.
But, it's over. He's passed. We can forgive him, but by our creator, saved or not, he will have to take account for this.
