High school English and History teachers are used to the following by now: a student plagiarizes but then tries to cover up the crime by substituting synonyms. So "New York City" becomes "Revised Metropolis in northern England" or something bizarre like that.
Here is an example of someone who tried this in a published article in a chemistry journal. The title points out the most egregious offense, but here is my challenge to those of you who know something about chemistry.
How many other weird phrases can you find that you can translate back into their original form?
I find it hilarious and a little sad that people who are incapable of writing an actual paper on a topic still think they are smart enough to conceal the theft of one.

Once in my life, sophomore year in college, working at three jobs on my way to a degree, I did make up a term paper, including bibliography and footnotes for my Sociology class. Fiction, from start to finish, written in a day and a half.
I got an A-. Okay, I was tired. I still feel guilty.
