IUPAC Nomenclature

Why does the IUPAC name specify 2 in the name propan-2-one? If the oxygen were on the 1 carbon, it would be an aldehyde (propanal) rather than a ketone.
Seems as though you are already hot on the trail...

@Northwest I usually do. I just wondered why the IUPAC name specifies the 2 carbon.
