The sad, tragic story of Peggy Entwhistle who jumped to her death from the famous Hollywood sign.

Peggy had been so depressed because no matter how hard she tried, she just kept getting rejection notices for both stage and screen. Day after day, she applied and it always remained the same polite rejection. Finally, she became so depressed and despondent she jumped to her death from the "HOLLYWOOD" sign.

The irony of the story is that the very next day,m there arrived in her mail, a letter of notice from one of her casting agents that she had managed to secure a major role in a local stage production which would have been a turning point on her failing acting career.

No one is able to climb atop the HOLLYWOOD sign after the tragedy. There are now effective therapies for depression/anxiety. Acting agents seem to make a greater effort to secure viable roles. But sadly enough all of this was a dollar short, and day late. Thus, the sad but true story of Peggy Entwhistle.

Wishing for all of you aspiring actors, the best of luck and a little reminder, never ever, toss your hat into the ring and give up all hope. The role you might have lost may have been your own. Persevere and never give up. Good luck with your career!

Everybody knows the entertainment business is tough, harsh, rough, exploitational, merciless, and sometimes even criminal (see H. Weinstein). It's a question of luck at least as much as it is a question of talent. Many try, and only a few will be lucky. Putting all one's eggs in that basket without any exit strategy is a bad idea, like, "I'll either be successful or I'll kill myself".
I may appear as ice-cold and emotionless but I think this woman has to be criticized for her false reaction, and I only feel empathy or compassion for her family and her friends whom she left back in pain and sadness and despair.
I feel this is a metaphor for too many people .
The :if only's
The 'but if id known'
The regrets
The sorrows
The 'i should have seen '

Life is a cruel mistress for reasons unkown .😔
I remember reading about her. She was originally from Wales.
