I agree with you, but it also sounds like they broke a 23 y.o. mentally ill, homeless(ish) kid's arm and laughed about it.
I'm sure Dave won't give a shit about giving him whatever money he wants, Dave's never given a fuck about cash, which is part of why he's a great comedian. Then if the kid does get the money, he can become a bigger menace to society, or die tragically young, all thanks to the fucked up civil court system.
If anything, I think this kid should be institutionalised, and Dave should be the one to fund his recovery (if recovery is possible). That would be the happy compromise for both parties, and it would make Dave look like a benefactor, esp. after he gets to talk about it on stage. I don't think giving this kid a wad of cash is a good idea, otherwise he'll probably buy more stupid shit like gun-knives.
