Thinking about joining the US Navy any advice or thoughts?

I've always had so much respect for the US Military. And i've been struggling to find the next step for me ever since I graduated high school. And I think joining the Navy would be a huge honor. I believe it will give me that sense of purpose that I have been longing for. I know its scary and hard as hell. But I think its what I need in my life right now. I just want to do good for my country and to make my family and myself proud. [image deleted]

Not sure if you're still thinking of this or not but my dad was in the military and he always talked about "if he could change one thing" it would be joining the Army instead of any other branch.

When you're going through basic training there's a term called "recycling" where, if you fail a test point, you get put back in time. It's the same thing as having to repeat a grade in school if you fail the grade. Thing is, you lose _everything_. The job you wanted? Gone. You favorite posting locations. Bye-bye! While you're already at the mercy of the military for what they need, if you get put back in basic, you've lost everything and get the jobs that no one wants. Janitor. Repair/maintenance positions that no one wants and doesn't translate to real world jobs.

The Army has a clause in their contracts that let you keep your job even if you get recycled in basic. You'll be able to go to your job though if you fail in training for your job you do go into infantry...
