Siblings charged after explosive found outside military base that is home to US Central Command

An IED was found outside the Visitors center at MacDill AFB two weeks ago. The brother and sister who placed the IED fled the United States to China (the sister later returning to the US and is in custody).

The male is believed to be in China.

Their mother is also in custody.

MacDill is a high value target because it is the headquarters of the CENTCOM Command.

@jshm2 Oh no, it was very, very real. AFAIK, there were no details of the type of explosives, construction of the IED, etc have been released.

It was placed outside the Visitors Center where visitors without a valid DoD ID can get a temporary pass. What’s amazing and really sloppy is that the entire base was searched after the brother called in a bomb threat and they failed to find it!

It was found by an Airman who alerted Security and the demolition team.
