Another Woman in the US Military relieved of her duties

Women Hold Up Half The Sky

Colonel Susannah Meyers, commander of Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, has been relieved of her duties—just days after pushing back against inflammatory comments made by Vice President JD Vance during a visit to the Arctic.

In late March Vance traveled to Greenland to revive Donald Trump’s controversial push to acquire the territory for the United States. Speaking during the visit, he claimed, “This has to happen, and the reason, I hate to say it, is because our friends in Denmark have not done their job in keeping this area safe.”

Denmark, a close NATO ally, has long overseen Greenland’s defense and its leaders have repeatedly condemned U.S. interest in annexing the territory. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the surprise visit “unacceptable pressure” and added, “It’s a shame, but now we have a government that needs to put on its work clothes.”

Meyers, who had been photographed with Vance and his wife during their visit to Pituffik, was stunned by the remarks. In an email sent to both American and international staffers stationed at the base—including personnel from Canada, Denmark, and Greenland—she wrote that she had “spent the weekend thinking about Friday’s visit—the actions taken, the words spoken, and how it must have affected each of you.”

“I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base.” Her email ended with a vow: “All of our flags will fly proudly—together.”

It was that expression of unity that ended her command. On Thursday, the Space Force issued a statement saying Meyers was removed due to a “loss of confidence in her ability to lead.”

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell wrote, "Actions to undermine the chain of command or to subvert President Trump's agenda will not be tolerated at the Department of Defense."

Meyers had been dismissed for speaking out—not against her country, but in defense of the people she leads, and the allies she serves alongside.

Her firing sends a stark message: standing up for integrity and unity is now grounds for removal.

I'd read that last night.

Trump's got 90 days to conclude trading arrangements with 90 countries before the whole tariff fiasco implodes the US economy, apparently. Good luck! 🤗

I salute this brave soldier !! She represents the true patriotism. And Vance is out of order. The lady rightly called the bluff - if Vance and Trump had declared war on Denmark then the soldier had a duty to obey the commands of superiors. But this unofficial bullying of JD Vance is without any constitutional validity. The soldiers are loyal to USA the Constitution and to the Supreme Commander - not to Trump's personal or business 'agenda'

She will unfortunately not be the only one. A series of commanders, notably in the US navy have been relieved of their command such as:

- Navy Cmdr. Brett Robblee
- Command Master Chief Felix Phillips
- Navy Cmdr. Christopher Johnson, Colorado-based Information Operations Command

Just to name a few...

Another shameful act by the new administration is to erase links from the Arlington Cemetery website to lists of notable graves, walking tours and educational material pertaining to Black, Hispanic and women veterans, as well as some Medal of Honor recipients as if those fallen were suddenly a burden to the new administration.
Right now, any and everyone that is not blindly and stupidly loyal to the president is being relieved of their duties...

Even if the only thing they do is point that the request is an illegal request, or they admit what the truth is...

It's honestly an extremely sad and scare time in American history...

Violated basic rule. Relieved of command. Makes sense.
