F14 Tomcat stories

When I was growing up the F-14 was the premier warplane of the United States. There was and probably never will be another aircraft like it and certainly one not designed around the weapon system like it was. This was back in the day that Miramar was fightertown .

The program was dedicated to the pilot who lost their lives during flight operations.And I wanted to see if my dad'squadron mate would be listed.

Is sure enough he was. Stinger was in the first group and Rio pooch Miller was listed also.

I sent this email to my mother and we talked about it for a while.She asked if I had sent it to him no... as one can understand it is still a sensitive subject for him to this day. And honestly I agree with the sentiments of some of the aviators on the show that the Tomcat was truly the last Bastion of the real Fighters and the drivers were the last of the genuine fighter pilot culture. Not saying or discounting any of the aviators today, but the culture is just not the same.
