Retired or active military personnel.

I I have a problem. I'm looking to buy a quality compass, but I am confused. I see these military style compasses selling for as little as $10.00 dollars, and it makes me question the quality of the compass itself. I know that cammenga is the official compass of the U. S. military, and they are designed to be put through hell during their life time. Can anyone offer any advice on this matter. Thank you.

I was in the airborne infantry. Only thing I use a compass for is as a emergency azimuth incase I get lost taking a short cut when out on a multiday hike, lose cellphone data and confirmed in advanced a secondary road that will get me somewhere is parallel to the woods in direction X.

Short of that I have never needed a compass since leaving the army.

Plain and simple, magnet in northern hemisphere points north regardless of the quality of the compass, and I've never been dissapointed with the degree markings of off brand compasses. It is a very simple thing to manufacture.
military equipment is sourced by the lowest bidder, find a compass that is NOT used by the military
