Yeah I'm playing it both ways
@abe182: the low slung wing allowed a better angle of attack when taking off and landing and lent the airframe slightly unstable making it more maneuverable. It's powerful rotory engine required a larger propeller as well.

@Jetpack: you're close. The prop did have to be large and the landing gears had to be extended so the prop cleared the ground. But that made landing on carriers impossible. Soooo they lowered the wing to reduce the length of the landing gear.
