What does everyone think of Anzac Day?

I think it's a bit of a farce to be honest.

Why is it a "farce" to remember people who have fought & died for their country?

@BalmyNites there is an article on MSN about bakeries may face fines if the alter the Anzac biscuit recipe. All the commercialism about this event is stupid and I'm over it. Anzac has now become a business more than a tribute/remeberance event. I'm done forever with this nonsense.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. The federal government & the Returned Services League are trying to STOP people making commercial gain by abusing the Anzac Day celebrations. Before anyone can sell a product using the word 'Anzac', they must have a permit from Veterans' Affair. Under the Crimes Act 1914, an individual can be fined up to $10,200 & an official body can be fined $51,000 for serious breaches in relation to the word 'Anzac'. This law is to prevent scammers jumping on the bandwagon & making an easy buck in the name of those who perished in war, conflict & peacekeeping operations & also in honour of the contribution & suffering of all who have served. I think the law is precisely right on this.

@BalmyNites it's all about commercial gain now. The Woolworths"fresh in our memories" ad along with others. It's just an overhyped nonsense. I just won't partake. Others can but I'm done. Cheers.

Having close military connections with family members having gone to war many times, I am totally against individuals/bodies gaining profit from loss & suffering associated with war & conflict & commercial gain should be cracked down on, yes.
