Well, other than the obvious, they most likely are technologically advanced beings that have figured out how to fold space or use worm holes or something. I'm pretty sure we are being 'observed'. They don't want to be seen, so we don't see them very often. They are either extraterrestrial or extra dimensional or both, and they are not all benevolent. We might get a good dose of poetic justice in the future.

@Platoscave I just mean that humanity has been hanging out for 50,000 years doing all kinds of horrible stuff to each other. You know? It's just the nature of the beast but we conquer and enslave and take stuff ad infinitum . We might wake up one morning being subject to something more powerful than any of us.
