Can anyone say something reassuring about the situation with Russia and the next five years?

The Pentagon brass has openly admitted that Russia could defeat NATO within a matter of hours, and we are in each others face like never before. It's not good when consulates get closed and dignitaries expelled.

Our military budget is greater than the entire Russian GDP. And we just got a big bump to facilitate repairs and upgrades and to increase training . Complex machines are expensive to maintain and the wear and tear on them is tremendous . Even here more than 40 % of our aircraft are not in service awaiting parts ... and our accident rate is up due to a decrease in training . So I would suspect Russia’s arsenal is probably in a greater state of disrepair . While Russia rattles a big Sabre , is their equipment up for a romp with NATO??? I suspect the General was hedging his bets for budget increases with a little false information. .

@TexChik That's a good one! Thanks! Seriously. For once I'm not being facetious even though it sounds like it. I still would like to see the eagle and the bear just sharing the forest and being happy, though.

@puck61 Thanks ! What defeated Russia last time was trying to keep up with the United States militarily . Regan bank rupted them ... and I suspect Russia remembers .
