I had a job offer in writing from ADP and they demanded to see my last 2 tax returns. I refused so they retracted the offer. Is that right?

My tax returns are my personal business and have nothing to do with a job. They had made the offer in writing. After they ditched me, they had a lawyer call me asking what happened. I think they were afraid I try to would sue. Chicken shit organization that I bad mouth every chance I get.

Bad enough they check your credit and talk to former employers.

I guess they didn't trust you on your application where you said what you were paid?

If they are that bad now...what kind of employer must they be?

@Pretzel That is precisely what I thought as well. I was hurt by the loss of the job offer since I was out of work and needed a job. But then I thought that this was probably not the place for me if they were going to invade my privacy and personal finances. They had made the offer and quoted a salary in writing to me so holding out for tax returns made no sense unless they planned to look at my taxable income and changing the number that had given me.

@AmericanAvenger I'm thinking they wanted to verify what you put down as your last salary - but heck your tax return isn't even available to law enforcement without all sorts of hoops.

@Pretzel Right - and we had negotiated a salary that we had agreed to and put in writing. It was unprofessional for them to try to avoid the commitment.
