Is software engineering a good field to switch to at age 36?

I was accepted to a program...
I'm not even that good at math but would love to try.

Yes i am aware of ai and its interference in the field.

You would be better off choosing a field that isn't becoming more and more redundant with each passing month, which software engineering definitely is doing. Even if you were 20 years old, I would tell you the same thing.

@swirlie are you in the field/know of someone doing it?

I am good friends with a woman who invented Adobe. She took software engineering in her day which would have been 1980. Back then, software engineering was a university engineering program which opened a lot of doors for her and got her on the Board of Directors of several silicon valley software companies.

Today however, that same engineering program isn't even offered in university anymore apparently, mainly because humans are learning from AI, just as AI became trained by humans who learned all this stuff beginning from 45 years ago. It is for that reason that software engineers are not in high demand today.

Having said that, why did you not embark on a software engineering program 15 years ago after you graduated from high school if that's where your focus lies today? Why now?
